Learning by doing is a tried-and-true method for centuries to master new skills. When you learn by doing, you are actively engaged in the learning process and are able to make mistakes and learn from them. This is much more effective than simply reading about a tool or watching someone else use it.

People have told me that they have found it difficult to retain information about D365 from online learning platforms, such as YouTube and Udemy because they have not had the opportunity to practice what they have learned in the ERP environment.

Microsoft provides free access to a fully functional Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations training environment, including development tools like Visual Studio. This is a great way to learn about the software and how to use it.

Step 1 : Create a Microsoft Learn account

Click on this link D365 Free VM. If you are already login to your Microsoft Learn account you will see Launch VM mode, otherwise, you'll see Sign in to Launch VM mode.

Simply use your Gmail account to create a new Microsoft LearnNext account.

enter your Gmail account and click on next,

a password screen will open enter your password and click next, you'll receive a verification code on your email, copy the code and paste it on the verification screen. After your verification is complete, the profile creation wizard will open.

Enter your name and click next

Select the role you are interested in and click next

Select experience level and click next

Select the product you are interested in and click next

Congratulations!!! Now you have created your profile and can access the VM

Step 2 : Log in to VM

After you click ok, a verification puzzle will be displayed, after solving it VM will be launched

Go to resources and click on T. Password will be auto-filled in the screen or else you can simply copy/paste the password. click on the right arrow

Now, you are in the Virtual machine (VM). To access the D365 environment, open Microsoft edge

Microsoft login screen will open, if you can't see the screen, copy the URL and paste it in the address bar.

click on T. username will be auto-filled in the screen or else you can simply copy/paste the username. click on next

Sometimes, on the first try it through an error, for that re-enter the user name and click next

in the next screen copy the password and paste it and click next.

Congratulations!!! now you have a fully functioning D365 environment to practice on.

While this environment is free to use, it does have some limitations. For example, any changes you make will not be saved once you close the VM. Additionally, the environment can be slower than a paid environment. However, it is still a valuable tool for learning about Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.

In my coming blogs, I'll write about setting up the legal entity and account structure
